When clients give me a tour of their space at our initial meeting, I ask questions like, "What is this space used for?" or "What items live in this closet?"
As we continue the tour, some will say:
"Wow, I didn't really realize just how much stuff I had until just now that I'm showing you," or "Talking about the function of this space makes me realize just how dysfunctional it really is."
Seeing a space from a fresh perspective can be an eye-opening experience for the client. Once they begin to recognize that each space can have a clear function and purpose, they realize the importance of being organized, and that's a beautiful thing!
