As a professional organizer and small space strategist, I'm invited into people's homes to make sense of their chaos and clutter. Before I jump in headfirst and begin to tackle those piles, it's critical to talk with the client and find out exactly what their goals are for each space as well as the function of the space.
And then I need to listen. And listen well. What's working well? What's not working well at all?
If a space isn't functioning well, it's important to collaborate with the client to discover what WILL work well for them. I treat everyone's home with the same care as if it were mine, but in the end, the organizing systems we create need to work best for the client, not for me.
