Let's face it - we live in a stressful, hectic, busy world, and it can be difficult to find time for ourselves. This exercise by Margaret Townsend (thelivingbreath.com) from the August 2017 issue of Real Simple magazine can help:
This exercise can give you "me time" on the inside, even when you can't get it from the outside.
Breathe in and out of your nose. As you inhale, become aware that this is how you receive your energy. Does the breath feel satisfying, full and spacious? Or does it feel short, incomplete, and tight?
As you exhale, become aware that this is how you empty and slow down. Does the exhale feel smooth, satisfying and complete? Or tight, like it stops before the breath empties out all the way?
Now take as much time as you need to inhale as deeply as feels good - no more, no less - and then exhale. Take your time to empty and relax.
Repeat 5 to 10 times as you let yourself have a little more air with each repetition. Say to yourself, "Right now there is enough time and space for me." Enjoy this little vacation.
