Clients have asked me what they can do to get their significant other on board with organizing. I always tell them that if only one of them wants to get organized, I only work with the person who wants help getting organized. We don’t touch their significant other’s stuff. I’m very clear with my clients that I never MAKE anyone get rid of anything, and part of my job entails coming up with creative solutions for the stuff they have.

How do you feel?

One question I often ask my clients when sorting and purging their clothing, "how do you feel when you wear this?" Their initial reaction is usually a good indicator of their feelings on the item.

How you feel in your clothing directly affects how you feel about yourself and, indirectly, how you may feel throughout the day. Additionally, your clothing plays a big role in how you project yourself to others.

The arrival of spring brings warmth, beauty and rebirth. It's also an opportunity to take time to clear out the old. I encourage you to tackle the pantry, or the coat closet, or the garage, or the junk drawer. Take everything out of the space, make decisions on what to keep, toss or donate, and only return into the space the items you want to keep.

To keep or not to keep...that is the question

Last week I spent about two hours sifting through my bedroom closet in an ongoing effort to create space for what matters in my own home. The process is always cathartic for me as I evaluate each item with a critical eye and ask myself questions such as: Does this fit well? Do I love this item on me? Does it need to be repaired? Do I really need three black t-shirts? Could someone else use this instead?
